Merit Badge Counselor

You are encouraged to become Merit Badge Counselor (MBC). Review the list of merit badge opportunities to see they match your skills, knowledge, or interest.

Registration Instructions to
Become a Merit Badge Counselor
Adults must be registered with BSA, however they do not need to be a member of our troop. For information, please contact our Advancement Chair, Ahmad. He will provide the required forms and then follow-up by submitting them to the District Advancement Counselor. Do not submit them to the Council office. These forms include:

  • Registration Form #28-501B: Social Security Number required on the top form. (There is no fee to be a Merit Badge Counselor.)
  • Merit Badge Application: Also available online.

Counselors require Youth Protection Training before counseling a merit badge. See Training.

  • Badges for Eagle Rank

    To qualify as an Eagle Scout the following of 21 merit badges are required: First Aid, Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the Nation, Citizenship in the World, Communications, Personal Fitness, Emergency Preparedness OR Lifesaving, Environmental Science, Personal Management, Camping, Hiking OR Cycling OR Swimming and Family Life. Five other requirements are needed.
