Point Reyes

JUNE 2009 - Written by Thomas, T394 Historian

Ceasar, Joseph, Brian, Thomas, Carson, Max, Roland, Matthew, Michael, Len John, and Scott all went on the Point Reyes trip in June.

When we arrived at the beginning of the trail we sat down and had lunch.  After lunch, we passed out the tents and food for the boys to carry.  We finally started our hike.  It was mostly uphill and rocky.  It felt like the hike was taking forever.  On our way Ryan slipped and cut his ankle.  We had to stop for him to get patched up.  Then we continued on up the trail.

When we arrived at the camp site we placed our food in the bear box.  We also locked some of the boys in the bear boxes and wedged a log under the door so it wouldn’t open for fun.  After that we set up our tents.  It was two scouts to a tent.

We had some free time so we decided to toss a football around.  We named it Wilson.  We were all having fun until someone threw it into the bushes that were surrounded and filled with poison oak.  Ceasar wasn’t paying attention and went in after it.  It took three attempts to find it.  When we finished football we went down to the beach.  We only took one car so the leader had to make two trips. The wind was blowing so fast the sand was being picked up and thrown at us like a sand storm. It hurt when the sand hit your face. Still didn’t stop us from wading in the water, but it was cold.  We then decided to build a big wall to block the water from touching us.  It kept on falling so we gave up.  We all still had a lot of energy so we started wrestling.  We were running at each other and tried to tackle each other.  It was fun, but scary because Joseph was there. He was like a bull.

When it was time to go, everyone got all the sand off their feet and their shoes back on and we went back to the car.  We took another two trips getting everybody to the trail.  Back at camp we had dinner then played around for a bit before bedtime.  We were really tired from all the playing that we all crashed out.

In the morning, we had some oatmeal for breakfast.  That day we hike another peak. It was really easy, just a few switchbacks here and there. Joseph, Ceasar and Thomas passed the peak and started heading back down.  The leaders had to send someone running after us. We took some pictures of the scouts and the scenery then started back down. Joseph, Ceasar, Thomas, and Carson all skipped down the hill until they started to go to fast and then turned into a full blown sprint down the hill.

Back at camp we packed up and hiked to the cars and there we ate lunch PB and J’s then we loaded into the cars and went home.
