Cold Weather Camping: Be Prepared!
WHAT TO WEAR:
- Upper Body: undershirt, sweater, and warm parker.
- Lower Body: Long johns, trousers, and shell trousers.
- Wool cap, scarf, gloves or mittens, insulated socks (wool over cotton is good), waterproof footwear.
- Fabrics: wool and polypropelene are best. Cotton, including jeans, are the worst especially when wet.
EQUIPMENT CHECKLIST:
- Two complete changes of clothing
- Heavy parka
- Boots and spare shoes (waterproof or rubber)
- Socks and more socks
- Long underwear
- Long pants, wool or blend (no jeans)
- Gaiters or heavy rubber bands (for bottom of pant legs)
- Shell pants (waterproof)
- Long sleeve shirt (wool or fleece ok, no cotton)
- Sweater (wool or blended)
- Cap and scarf
- Gloves or mittens (waterproof)
- Rain gear
- Lots of plastic bags
- Compass
- Water bottle
- Flashlight
- Duffle bag or backpack
- Sleeping bag (thick, last least 20 degree rating preferred)
- Insulation pads
- Toiletries
- Towel
- Soap
- Medications (give to adult in charge)
- Camera and film
- Patrol first aid kit
- Boy Scout Handbook
- Notebook and pen
